Rubin Starset

While staying in Minneapolis in March, I finally got the chance to see a real Roller Derby game, the Minnesota RollerGirls. I didn't know what to expect, other then girls on roller skates throwing each other to the floor.

As it turns out the game is much more elegant then that. Two teams compete to block the opposing team's Jammer from passing the pack over and over again. Team mates not amming must block the enemy Jammer, while still helping out their Jammer to past the pack. By helping out I mean grabbing them by the arms and flinging them ahead.

All in all I was pretty impressed by how elegant the game is, especially when considering its past history and current candy coated look.
